Better Run!!!

Price: 11.95

Review / Notes: Perhaps not a name too many will be overly familiar with, Brazilian born guitarist / vocalist Marco Ferreira is a member of US hard rockers Goodbye Thrill and French progressive metal act Venturia, both of whom have released a pair of albums apiece within the last four years. As if all that wasn’t enough, Marco also has a parallel solo career - a career that started as long ago as 2002 with the promising ‘Fallen Heroes’ album. ‘Better Run!!!’ is his third solo outing to date, an album which comes some two years or so after his last such effort ‘Working Overtime’. Much more in keeping with the punchy, hard rock vibe of Goodbye Thrill than his other band Venturia, this album offers a quirky mixture of classic hard rock influences given a slightly more contemporary sheen. Ferreira’s production is robust and powerful – I especially like the guitar sound – and whilst the songs may lack a certain level of immediacy, repeated visits bring their own rewards for those looking for adventure. From the edgy, brooding angst of ‘Trust The Enemy’ (Ferreira at their most eclectic and antsy), to the Dokken meets Goodbye Thrill strains of opener ‘Secret Damned Society’, ‘Better Run!!’ offers the listener a pot pourri of moods and sounds throughout. Personally speaking I would’ve preferred an album of numbers in the vein of the aforementioned opener, but the playing and delivery remains uniformly excellent throughout, regardless of the many twists and turns the album takes stylewise along the way.
